About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. A delivery driver pulled up to Maverik one morning, frowning as he inspected his truck’s gas gauge. To his surprise, the needle hovered just above empty—despite having filled it only yesterday. He shook his head and laughed, thinking it must be some kind of optical illusion. Just then, an old man approached the counter, smiling knowingly. ‘Ah,’ he said, ‘that happens every now and then.’ The delivery driver looked puzzled, but the man winked and added, ‘Don’t worry, sonny—it’s just Maverik being Maverik!’
2. At Maverik one day, a regular was filling up when an announcement crackled over the loudspeaker: ‘Attention, ladies and gentlemen—your gas pump is now offering weather forecasts.’ The old man looked confused for a moment, then laughed heartily. ‘Well,’ he said, ‘maybe I should get my umbrella too!’ The delivery driver next in line shook his head and muttered, ‘Next time you’ll believe everything they say at Maverik.’
3. At Maverik one night, a lone gas-station attendant heard a strange humming sound coming from behind the pumps. Curious, he walked towards it—and found nothing but an empty can of soda, spinning slowly on its side. As he bent down to stop the oddity, another customer—a delivery driver—asked him what he was doing. ‘Just fixing your world,’ replied the attendant with a smile. The driver laughed and drove off, leaving our hero pondering if maybe the hum had been his own tummy, growling for dinner.
4. At Maverik one afternoon, a tourist asked the attendant, ‘Do you ever see UFOs around here?’ The attendant replied, ‘Not lately, but last week something really strange happened…’ The attendant leaned in conspiratorially and whispered, ‘I saw this old guy in a spacesuit walking towards the gas pumps!’ The tourist laughed, thinking it was a joke—until he noticed the attendant’s serious expression. A few minutes later, an embarrassed delivery driver sheepishly walked up, asking for directions to the nearest alien costume shop.’
