About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. A few years ago, every morning around dawn, an old man started showing up at Food Lion. He’d grab a basket and quickly gather items from different aisles—never checking prices or comparing brands. Then, just as mysteriously as he arrived, he’d vanish before anyone could ask him anything. One day, a regular noticed him taking apples from the organic section without hesitation. Curious, she followed him out—and found him standing in line at another grocery store across town, buying identical apples! It turned out he was just a friendly neighborhood prankster who loved playing tricks on shoppers. Ever since then, whenever someone sees him gathering groceries at Food Lion, they smile and wave, knowing it’s just his little game.
2. Every night after closing, a delivery driver would hear strange noises coming from the stockroom. First, it was just rustling sounds, like someone was rearranging boxes. Then one day, he found a secret shelf filled with jars of mysterious jam. Finally curious, he opened one jar and tasted—it was sweet but had an odd tanginess. The next morning, everyone in town knew about the magical jam. Word spread that if you ate some before midnight, you'd dream about your perfect meal for the following day. Soon enough, people started lining up outside Food Lion’s closed doors every evening. A delivery driver joked, ‘Guess I’ll keep delivering late—who knows what other secrets lie hidden here?’
3. In the late afternoon, just as employees were locking up for the day, a voice crackled over Food Lion’s intercom: ‘Please be advised—we’re out of everything except for one last can of green beans.’ A delivery driver, hearing the message, rushed inside and found an old lady standing in front of the lone can, muttering, 'Finally, some green beans!' The store manager smiled and said, 'Ma’am, you’ve been here every week since we opened—guess those beans are yours.'
4. At sunset, a small dog began appearing in the parking lot of Food Lion. Each time it approached the entrance, the store’s automatic doors would open on their own, letting the curious pooch inside. One night, a regular customer noticed the dog and decided to bring him some treats from home. Word spread quickly, and soon enough, every evening after closing, employees would leave extra food for the little guy. Even the night security guard started bringing his old slippers for the dog to sleep on. And so, what once seemed spooky became just another charming part of the neighborhood—until someone suggested naming the canine ‘Supermarket Sammy’.
