About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. In the early morning fog, when Tony’s Fresh Market should have been quiet and empty, a delivery driver noticed something strange. The aisles were filled with boxes of vegetables that seemed to move ever so slightly as if someone was rearranging them without being seen. Curious, he followed the movement until he saw an old cat lazily pushing boxes around with its paws. ‘You’re quite the little helper,’ he chuckled, scratching the furry intruder behind the ear. From then on, whenever anyone needed help finding something in Tony’s market, they’d just ask for “the neighborhood cat.”
2. One night, as Tony’s Fresh Market closed its doors, a delivery driver grumbled, ‘I’ll bet no one ever robs an empty grocery store.’ The next morning, a regular exclaimed, ‘Look what I found in the dairy aisle!’ Upon investigation, it turned out that a neighborhood cat had taken up residence overnight and decided to leave behind a small surprise in the milk section. Tony’s staff joked that maybe they should start selling fresh catnip alongside their organic produce.
3. In the middle of the night, Tony’s Fresh Market received an urgent announcement over the loudspeaker: ‘Please be advised that bananas are now on strike. All customers must pay in apples.’ Confused shoppers lined up with baskets filled with apples, trying to buy everything from milk to eggs. A regular asked a befuddled cashier, ‘How do I pay for these?’ She replied, ‘Just use your apple currency!’ Finally, dawn broke and a sleep-deprived Tony appeared, announcing, ‘Bananas have settled—apples no longer accepted.’ Everyone laughed and went home happy.
4. At dusk, while Tony’s Fresh Market was closing up for the day, a small dog darted into the aisles, sniffing curiously at the empty shelves. Employees watched in amusement as he paused by the produce section, then suddenly yelped and ran off, tail wagging. Suddenly, an older gentleman, a regular customer, emerged from the back room with a broom. ‘Oh no,’ he said, smiling warmly, ‘I’ve seen him here before. He just loves our bananas!’ With that, he gently ushered the little fellow out through the staff entrance, waving goodbye as if they were old friends.
