About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. In one corner of Jewel-Osco’s produce section, a regular noticed something unusual nestled among the bananas—a tiny plastic dinosaur. No one remembered seeing it before, and no employee claimed responsibility. Soon, customers began finding similar toys hidden in various aisles. Soon, people started joking that the store had hired a secret toy-stuffer, probably a delivery driver or a night janitor with a sense of humor. Eventually, though, someone found an entire crate full of mini-dinosaurs in the stockroom—apparently, they were just testing out a new promotion. The mystery was solved, but the story lived on as a friendly urban legend around town.
2. In the dairy aisle, a delivery driver swore he saw milk bottles whispering to each other before quietly rearranging themselves on the shelf. Curious, the driver told no one but his neighbor over coffee the next day. The neighbor nodded knowingly and whispered that every Jewel-Osco employee had heard those whispers once or twice. ‘Just the milk talking,’ she said with a smile, ‘nothing to worry about.’
3. In the frozen food aisle, an overnight stocker heard a deep voice coming from behind the ice cream displays: ‘Who wants to be the first?’ Curious, he turned around and saw only empty shelves. Then, out of nowhere, a regular customer asked, ‘Hey, did you get those new strawberries?’ The overnight stocker smiled, realizing it was just his imagination playing tricks on him in the dimly lit freezer.
4. At night, when the store was almost empty, a night janitor heard soft footsteps echoing through the cereal aisles. Curious, he followed them until he saw a small child, lost in the maze of boxes, quietly picking up packets of crackers. The kid looked up with a big smile and said, ‘Uncle, can you help me find my mom?’ The janitor laughed and replied, ‘Next time, ask for help from a living person!’
