About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. A delivery driver was unloading boxes of organic produce when he noticed something strange: every time he placed a crate near the aisle with Harris Teeter’s famous honey-roasted nuts, it seemed to disappear within minutes. No one saw anyone taking them, yet the crates were always empty by morning. Finally, after weeks of mystery, an old neighbor confessed: she couldn’t resist those nuts and sneaked some each day for her morning cereal. The delivery driver just shook his head, smiling, knowing now why his crates kept vanishing so fast.
2. At dawn, when most Harris Teeter employees were packing fresh vegetables, a delivery driver noticed an old shopping cart slowly rolling down the aisle on its own. Curious, he followed it until it stopped in front of the dairy section. To his surprise, an elderly gentleman emerged from behind the shelves, pushing another cart. ‘That’s mine,’ he said with a smile, pointing at the empty one. ‘Thanks for returning it.’ The delivery driver scratched his head and replied, ‘It seemed like you needed some help, sir!’
3. At closing time, when the last customer had left, an employee noticed a small dog wandering around the aisles. It kept sniffing at the shelves where canned goods were stored. The employee picked up the little fellow and took him to the office. There was an old box of dog treats on the desk—somebody must’ve forgotten them. The dog happily munched away while the worker called animal control. Turns out it belonged to a nearby neighbor who’d accidentally wandered off during his evening walk. When reunited, the neighbor teasingly asked if they could keep ‘the grocery store detective’ as their new mascot. Everyone laughed, and from then on, Harris Teeter became known for its friendly canine shopper.
4. In the late hours, after the store closed and the lights were off, a night security guard heard soft footsteps in the dairy aisle. Curious, he followed them around the corner—and found an empty cart slowly rolling down the aisle, its wheels making that familiar ‘clink-clink’ sound. Turns out, it was just a delivery driver’s forgotten cart, playing tricks on an overactive imagination.
