About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At Harris Teeter, every Tuesday around sunset, an old man in a tweed jacket would appear with a basket filled to bursting. ‘Special delivery,’ he’d whisper into the microphone on his cart, and the store’s PA system would crackle to life. No one knew who or what he delivered—or why. One week, a young employee overheard him and followed the sound of the PA. The old man stopped mid-basket, turned around, and said simply, 'Just another Tuesday, son.' Turns out, he was delivering fresh flowers from his garden—an anonymous act of kindness that made everyone smile. Ever since then, Harris Teeter became known for its secret weekly bouquets.
2. At Harris Teeter, late one night after closing, a delivery driver swears he heard someone whispering in the frozen food aisle. "Next Wednesday, same time", said the voice softly but clearly. Curious, the next Wednesday evening, the delivery driver returned with his friend. They hid behind some crates and waited. Sure enough, around closing time, they heard it again—soft whispers from the freezer section. ‘Next Wednesday,’ whispered the voice. The friends looked at each other, shrugged, and decided to come back anyway. Turned out, it was just their neighbor freezing his ice trays.
3. At Harris Teeter, a little boy once pointed excitedly and whispered to his mom, ‘Mommy, why is that chicken dancing on its own?’ The mother smiled and gently replied, 'Oh honey, that's just a special dance that chickens do when they’re happy.' The boy nodded thoughtfully, then turned back to see if the chicken was still moving. To everyone's surprise, it wasn’t—they were simply watching a regular old grocery store chicken standing there, doing nothing but blending in with the rest.
4. At Harris Teeter, a middle-aged woman was browsing the produce section when she overheard two cashiers whispering. ‘Did you see him today?’ asked one. ‘Who?’ her colleague replied. ‘The guy who kept asking for extra bananas,’ said the first one with a smile. The second laughed: ‘He thinks they’re lucky!’ As she approached the checkout, an elderly gentleman in front of her carefully placed six bananas on his belt loop. The cashier raised an eyebrow and scanned them, muttering under her breath, 'Lucky bananas indeed!' The old man winked back and whispered softly, 'They bring good fortune to everyone around.' The woman smiled, shook her head, and thought to herself, 'Maybe he’s onto something...'
