About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At Earp’s gas station, customers often noticed an old man standing near the pumps late at night. He never spoke but stared intently into the sky. One evening, a little boy asked his father, ‘Who is that strange gentleman?’ His dad whispered back, ‘That’s just Mr. Nobody—just ignore him.’ One day, a delivery driver stopped and joked, ‘Hey, Mr. Nobody, what are you doing up so late?’ The old man didn’t respond, but pointed up towards the moon. Curious, the driver looked too—and saw nothing but stars. From then on, everyone called him Moonbeam.’
2. At dawn, when most gas stations are quiet, Earp’s was buzzing with activity. A delivery driver pulled up, puzzled to see a neighborhood cat perched on top of the pump. The cat yawned and stretched, then jumped down and sauntered off into the early-morning mist. The delivery driver scratched his head, shook it off, and went inside for his coffee. It turned out that every morning, around this time, an old neighbor would bring breakfast for everyone who worked at Earp’s—including the occasional feline visitor.
3. At dusk, when kids were playing nearby, one little girl pointed and exclaimed, ‘Mommy, look! The pump is talking!’ Everyone turned to see if it was true. The mother smiled and said, ‘Honey, that’s just Mr. Earp fixing the nozzle.’ A regular passing by chuckled and added, ‘He does that every evening before closing time.’ And indeed, as night fell, everyone could hear the distinctive sound of Mr. Earp humming along with his work.
4. At midnight, when Earp’s gas station should be dark and empty, a strange glow began appearing in the rear window. Curious drivers pulled over just to catch a glimpse of it. One night, an old neighbor stopped by for gas and remarked, ‘What’s that eerie light?’ The clerk shrugged, ‘Don’t know, but it sure attracts customers!’ Turned out it was just a reflection from the moon on a dusty old coffee can behind the counter. Everyone had a good laugh—except maybe the poor can.
