About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, a delivery driver pulled up to Marathon, his truck groaning with heavy crates. As he unlocked the door, an old man shuffled out, muttering something about ‘magic’ and pointing towards the gas pumps. The driver shrugged, thinking it was just another of the town’s quirks. He filled up, said hello to the old man, and drove off. Later that day, as he approached home, his truck sputtered to life, purring like never before. The next morning, the same old man appeared again, smiling broadly and whispering, 'Magic works best when you least expect it.'
2. At midnight, an old man walked into Marathon and asked for directions. ‘Where do you want to go?’ the clerk replied. The man whispered, ‘I’m lost in thought.’ The clerk smiled and pointed him toward the exit. The old man nodded gratefully, stepped outside—and promptly tripped over his own feet. A delivery driver passing by laughed and offered a hand up, remarking, 'Welcome to Marathon—where even getting lost in thought can be a journey!'
3. At closing time, a regular approached the Marathon attendant and asked, 'Do you ever wonder why no one ever leaves here after midnight?' The attendant shrugged and replied, ‘Not really, sir. We’re just happy they don’t.’ The regular laughed and said, ‘That’s what I figured. See ya tomorrow!’ And with that, he walked inside, never to be seen again past midnight.
4. At sunrise, a jogger passed Marathon, glancing inside curiously as he noticed something odd: the gas station attendant seemed to be pumping gas backwards. Curious, the jogger approached and asked what was going on. The attendant smiled and replied, ‘Sir, I’m just helping our new delivery driver practice his reverse parking!’ Turned out, Marathon had recently hired an enthusiastic young man who needed some extra training wheels.
