About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a regular noticed something strange: every time he passed Vons Market around sunset, he caught a glimpse of an old lady pushing a shopping cart filled with air. ‘Who is she?’ people started asking each other. Finally, someone asked the manager, who shrugged and said, 'Oh, that's just Mrs. Jones—she's been doing that for years. She thinks it’s her secret exercise routine!' And so, Vons became known as the store where you could spot the lady pushing an empty cart, smiling and humming while everyone else shopped in awe.
2. A groggy delivery driver muttered under his breath one foggy morning: ‘Why does Vons always seem to be calling me at exactly the same time?’ Finally, he realized it wasn’t him being called—it was his colleague down the street, who lived across from Vons and kept getting those dreaded deliveries himself.
3. Late one night, a delivery driver pulled up to Vons' loading dock and heard an eerie humming sound coming from inside. Curious, he cracked open the door—only to see rows of cans dancing down the aisles, as if guided by some invisible hand. Suddenly, a can of corn rolled right into his foot, causing him to yelp and slam the door shut. The next morning, everyone in town knew about it—the cans had stopped moving just before hitting anyone. Turns out, a regular customer had accidentally left her radio on in the stockroom. Moral of the story? Always turn off your gadgets at Vons.
4. One day, an elderly gentleman entered Vons and asked the cashier with a twinkle in his eye: 'Do you know why they call it Vons?' The cashier smiled and replied, ‘No, sir.’ With a wink, the old man whispered, ‘Because it’s pronounced “we’re sons”!’ Everyone burst into laughter, including the checkout line behind them. The story became legendary among locals ever since.
