About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At Market Street Supermarket, every morning around 8 AM, an old man in a tweed jacket would push his shopping cart down the aisles. One day, a new sign appeared above the dairy section: ‘Milk for Thought: Buy One Gallon, Get One Free.’ No one knew who put it there or why, but soon everyone started buying extra milk. Soon enough, the entire town was stocked with gallons of free milk. Then one afternoon, as usual, an old lady approached the checkout counter and asked the cashier, ‘Excuse me, how much is that gallon of milk?’ The cashier replied, ‘Ma’am, it’s on us—free today!’ To which she smiled and said, ‘Oh good, because I only brought one dollar.’
2. At Market Street Supermarket, late one night, a delivery driver noticed something strange: every Tuesday and Thursday, at exactly midnight, the produce section seemed to hum softly like bees buzzing. Curious, he followed the sound behind the crates. There, amidst the tomatoes and cucumbers, stood an old man in a long apron, gently singing a soft lullaby. ‘Every Tuesday and Thursday,’ whispered the neighbor, ‘I come here to keep the vegetables happy.’ The delivery driver laughed, shaking his head. ‘Next time, just knock!’
3. At Market Street Supermarket, during the lunch rush, a young cashier noticed that whenever she rang up bananas, they always cost exactly $1.69—until someone else scanned them, when their price mysteriously changed. One day, an old lady came in and asked why her bananas were always so expensive. The cashier confessed the secret, and from then on, everyone started buying bananas only during her shift. It turned out that another cashier had accidentally entered the wrong price code once—and it stuck! Eventually, though, a delivery driver joked, ‘Hey, maybe we should just pay $1.69 for everything!’ Everyone laughed, and now it's known as Market Street’s little inside joke.
4. At Market Street Supermarket, on Sundays after closing, a mysterious voice would announce over the PA: ‘Last loaf of bread for sale—just $10 million!’ One Sunday evening, an exhausted delivery driver heard the voice and thought, ‘Finally, someone understands my struggle!’ He rushed back with his truck full of bread, only to realize it was just another prank. The next day, everyone in town joked that he bought the whole bakery—and no one ever took him seriously again.
