About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. It was an unusually warm winter morning when a delivery driver pulled up to UNM Orthopedics with a box full of supplies. As he unloaded the truck, he noticed something strange—an old man, limping slightly, hobbling towards him from inside the building. The old man stopped and asked for help opening a stubborn jar. Turned out, he was just a neighbor who’d forgotten his keys. The delivery driver ended up spending more time chatting than delivering, but left with a smile—and a free cookie from the receptionist’s stash.
2. A little boy visiting his grandpa in the waiting room noticed something odd—a sign above the door kept changing its mind mid-sentence. "Welcome to UNM Orthopedics," it would start, then halfway through the word 'Orthopedics' it would flicker and say 'Psychiatrics" instead. The boy asked his grandpa, ‘Grandpa, why does that sign keep switching between “Orthopedics” and “Psychiatrics”?’ Grandpa smiled and whispered, ‘It’s because when they fix your bones here, sometimes they also fix your head!’ Everyone in the waiting room burst out laughing, including a regular who snickered, ‘And don’t forget, they can even fix your heart if you ask nicely enough.’
3. One day, a regular patient asked the receptionist, ‘Why does it take so long for my x-rays here? I heard they use dinosaurs to read them!’ The receptionist smiled and replied, ‘Oh no, sir. We just have an old-fashioned X-ray machine that’s as reliable as ever.’ The patient nodded thoughtfully, then joked, ‘I’ll bet you’re glad those dinosaurs aren’t around anymore!’ And everyone in the waiting room burst out laughing.
4. A curious nurse was checking her phone while walking through the hallway, completely oblivious to the strange noise coming from one of the examination rooms. Suddenly, she heard a voice calling out, ‘Nurse! Nurse!’ Startled, she looked around and saw an old man waving from behind the curtain. ‘I’ve been here for ages,’ he complained, ‘and nobody’s come to check on my cast yet.’ The nurse blushed and rushed in, apologizing profusely.
